Lacroix: Volunteer networks have helped save thousands of lives in Sudan
The French newspaper La Croix reported that volunteers in "emergency rooms" have formed a vast civilian support network since the outbreak of war in Sudan, helping to save thousands of lives despite ongoing fighting and restrictions imposed by the military authorities. In a report by its special correspondent in Khartoum, Augustin Basset, the newspaper explained that these rooms' initiatives began during the Sudanese revolution and expanded as the war escalated, encompassing the distribution of meals and medicine, organizing blood donation drives, and providing care for children who had dropped out of school. The correspondent noted that the soup kitchens run by volunteers continue to provide hundreds of meals daily in Khartoum. Volunteer Al-Bukhari Al-Sayiq (names changed) said, "We prepare 350 meals a day and work 20 days a month.
