New Tragedy Strikes North Darfur: 37 Killed in Airstrike Targeting Tribal Court

Amidst an atmosphere of grief and anger, the residents of Gara Zawiya in North Darfur mourned the victims of the deadly attack that targeted a tribal court during a meeting of local leaders. The attack, which occurred on Sunday, August 2, 2026, resulted in the deaths of at least 37 people and left dozens wounded, according to eyewitnesses. The attack was carried out by a drone believed to belong to the Sudanese army, which has recently intensified its aerial operations in the Darfur region. Witnesses at the scene reported that the drone fired four missiles targeting the tribal court in the Gara Zawiya area of ​​Kabkabiya locality. The meeting, which brought together regional leaders and prominent figures, ended in a humanitarian catastrophe, as the region lost a number of key figures, including field commanders from the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and tribal leaders and elders from the Mahamid tribe, a branch of the Rizeigat. The reactions were swift. The Sudanese Founding Alliance, dominated by the RSF, blamed the Sudanese army for the attack. The alliance's spokesperson, Ahmed Tagad Lissan, called for an independent international investigation to uncover the circumstances of the attack and punish those responsible. He also urged the international community and human rights organizations to assume their responsibilities and intervene urgently to protect civilians and put an end to these repeated violations.
