Sudan demands that Ethiopia cease actions that escalate tensions

Khartoum, March 2, 2026 – The Sudanese government issued a strongly worded warning to Ethiopia regarding what it deemed hostile actions, accusing it of allowing its territory to be used to launch attacks targeting areas inside Sudan. In its statement, the government affirmed its right to respond to these violations. This statement marks the first official accusation by Khartoum against Addis Ababa of direct involvement in the nearly three-year-long war. Press reports last month revealed Ethiopia's role in hosting a training camp for the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) near the Sudanese border in the Blue Nile region, providing logistical support and weapons funded by the United Arab Emirates. The Sudanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed in a statement that it has been monitoring drones entering Sudan from within Ethiopian territory since February and early March, targeting locations inside Sudan. It expressed its categorical rejection of this behavior, describing it as a blatant violation of the country's sovereignty and a clear act of aggression against the state. The government statement emphasized its warning to Ethiopia of the repercussions of these hostile acts, noting that Sudan has the full right to protect its territory and sovereignty, including taking all necessary measures to counter these attacks by all available means. In this context, an alliance of the Rapid Support Forces and the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-N) led by Abdelaziz al-Hilu launched intense ground attacks during January and February against several locations in Blue Nile State. The Sudanese army successfully repelled these attacks. After the ground offensives failed to achieve any significant gains, the Rapid Support Forces resorted to intensifying drone strikes targeting multiple areas in Blue Nile State near the Ethiopian border.
