Sudan: Evidence of Ethiopian Involvement in Khartoum Airport Bombing; Khartoum Affirms Right to Retaliate

May 5, 2026 In the Africa, News, War Between the Sudanese Army and the Rapid Support Forces, Relations with Neighboring Countries section Khartoum – Sudanese Foreign Minister Mohi El-Din Salem confirmed on Tuesday morning that Sudan possesses conclusive evidence of the involvement of both the UAE and Ethiopia in the bombing of Khartoum Airport using drones. The Sudanese official stressed that his country reserves the right to respond at the appropriate time. During a joint press conference held late Monday evening with Information Minister Khaled Al-Aisir and Army Spokesperson Assem Awad Abdel Wahab, the minister explained that the attack, which targeted Khartoum Airport and adjacent residential areas, also struck other military sites, most notably the Signal Corps base in Khartoum North and the Al-Murkhiyat military training camp in Omdurman. During the conference, the officials indicated that they have "conclusive evidence" proving the involvement of the UAE and Ethiopia in the recent operations, as the attacking drones were launched from Bahir Dar Airport in Ethiopia. The flight paths of these drones were presented as part of the evidence supporting these accusations. The Sudanese government affirmed its right to respond in a manner commensurate with the scale of these attacks, at a time and place of its choosing. The recent attack on Khartoum Airport adds to a series of attacks targeting various locations across the country, including areas in Khartoum, Gezira, Gedaref, and White Nile states, in recent days. Relations between Khartoum and Addis Ababa have been strained in recent weeks, with Ethiopia summoning the Sudanese ambassador last March to protest Sudanese accusations that Addis Ababa was facilitating Rapid Support Forces operations within Sudanese territory. The Ethiopian side described these accusations as "baseless claims." For his part, Sudanese army spokesman Assem Awad Abdel Wahab stated that the recent attacks on Khartoum State constitute a serious violation of the country's sovereignty. He added that they had detected hostile military movements confirming that the drones that launched the attacks originated from Bahir Dar Airport in Ethiopia. The Sudanese Foreign Minister also affirmed his country's readiness to confront any threat to its sovereignty and national security, and its determination not to tolerate these provocations, which he described as aggressive.
