Sudanese Foreign Ministry: US President's Advisor's Statements on Rejecting a Truce Are Inaccurate

June 27, 2026 - Khartoum The Sudanese Foreign Ministry stated on Saturday that the claims made by Massad Boulos, advisor to the US President, before the Security Council regarding the Sudanese Sovereignty Council's rejection of a draft humanitarian truce do not reflect the true positions of the Sudanese government, which has demonstrated flexibility in dealing with initiatives aimed at ending the ongoing conflict. Massad Boulos had stated on Friday during a Security Council meeting that the Sovereignty Council had rejected a US-proposed draft concerning a humanitarian truce. However, Sudan's representative to the United Nations, Al-Harith Idris, responded to these claims, explaining that the Council had submitted its amendments to the proposed draft, including a timetable for the withdrawal of the warring forces. In its statement, the Sudanese Foreign Ministry stressed that Boulos's remarks "lack accuracy and in no way reflect the positions of the Sudanese government or its various institutions, including the Sovereignty Council." The statement clarified that Sudan has been dealing seriously and responsibly since the beginning of the war with all solutions and initiatives aimed at ending the suffering of its citizens and establishing security and stability. The Ministry noted that Sudan had submitted an initiative to the Security Council in December 2015 aimed at withdrawing the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) from the areas they control and disarming them systematically, in addition to bringing those involved in violations to justice. The initiative anticipated that this would be followed by an internal dialogue to discuss the future of governance in the country. The statement emphasized the positive and constructive engagement of the Sudanese government with the draft humanitarian truce, to which it provided detailed responses during its consultations with the US side. It also indicated that ending the war requires halting the supply of weapons and mercenaries to the RSF from abroad, and ceasing the political and diplomatic support that enables them to continue their armed operations and violations of civilian rights. The statement added that the continuation of this support is a key factor fueling the conflict and prolonging the destruction and suffering inflicted on innocent civilians. Sudan specifically mentioned the United Arab Emirates, pointing to its role in supplying the Rapid Support Forces with weapons, including drones, despite Abu Dhabi's denial of these accusations and its statement that it is not interfering in the conflict. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs urged the international community to understand the nature of the conflict in Sudan and to work towards a unified international stance to support state institutions and create the conditions for achieving peace and stability in the country. On the other hand, the Foreign Minister in the "Constituent Government," Ammar Amoun, expressed his support for the demands made by some countries during the Security Council for a humanitarian truce. However, he clarified that the Sudanese government rejected a US proposal aimed at ensuring the continued delivery of humanitarian aid across conflict lines and international borders. It is worth noting that the "Constituent Government" is entirely controlled by the Rapid Support Forces, which adds further tension to the Sudanese political and military landscape.
