The Sudanese army is making progress in South Kordofan, and Burhan meets with a UN envoy.

Their celebration of capturing the Tebessa and Damra areas was met with jubilation from local residents, who responded with cheers and cries of "Allahu Akbar" (God is Great). As fighting intensifies on the ground, warnings are mounting about the deteriorating security situation in the Kordofan states. In West Kordofan specifically, the government spokesperson there noted an escalation in violence and attacks, including looting and rape, amid a clear absence of security due to the war. Reports indicate that South Kordofan is one of the areas where forces of the Sudan People's Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-N) are present. These forces have allied themselves with the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) within what is known as the "Sudan Founding Alliance." This alliance dates back to last February, when Sudanese political forces and armed movements, along with the RSF, signed a political charter in the Kenyan capital, Nairobi, with the aim of forming an alternative government to the current Sudanese authorities. This move provoked angry reactions from Khartoum. Politically, and amidst the ongoing crises on the ground, the Chairman of the Transitional Sovereign Council, Lieutenant General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, received the Personal Envoy of the UN Secretary-General, Ramtane Lamamra, in Port Sudan. Al-Burhan affirmed his government's readiness to cooperate with the United Nations on humanitarian and development issues, praising Lamamra's role in supporting peace initiatives. For his part, Lamamra confirmed during his meeting with al-Burhan that his visit aimed to follow up on the political and humanitarian developments in the country. He indicated that there was a window of opportunity for dialogue between the Sudanese parties, which could succeed in halting the bloodshed, emphasizing the United Nations' readiness to provide all forms of support to ensure the success of this process.
