Washington unveils new international initiative concerning Sudan

In a move aimed at addressing the escalating humanitarian crisis in Sudan, Massad Boulos, the US President's advisor on African affairs, revealed the United States' plan to convene an international donors' conference in the coming weeks. The initiative seeks to bolster efforts to achieve an immediate humanitarian truce and mobilize financial support to address the dire situation in the country. Boulos described the humanitarian situation in Sudan as catastrophic and unprecedented, citing UNICEF estimates that approximately 33.7 million people, including 17.3 million children, will require humanitarian assistance this year. This places Sudan at the forefront of global humanitarian crises. In this context, Boulos explained that the United States is working to establish a special fund to collect donations and direct them toward covering urgent humanitarian needs. He added that former US President Donald Trump described the situation in Sudan as "the world's greatest humanitarian disaster," emphasizing the urgent need to find a solution. On the political front, Paul noted that the United States is holding discussions with its partners in the Quartet, along with other parties, to support the political solution process. Meanwhile, the Sudanese government expressed its rejection of the UAE's participation in this mechanism, which includes Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and the United States, indicating its desire to impose its own vision for a solution. This vision includes the withdrawal of the Rapid Support Forces from cities, a complete disarmament process, and the convening of an internal political conference to determine the country's future. These moves are part of international efforts to rescue Sudan from its complex crisis, which requires an urgent and multifaceted response.
