What is the goal that the Sudanese government seeks to achieve by moving its ministries to the capital, Khartoum?
Khartoum – Since the Sudanese army took control of the capital, Khartoum, and several neighboring states, the executive authorities have begun preparing the state for reconstruction and improved services, based on directives from the Higher Committee for Environmental Preparation, with the aim of enabling citizens to return to Khartoum State. In this regard, the Chairman of the Transitional Sovereignty Council and Commander of the Sudanese Army, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, formed a committee in mid-July, headed by Sovereignty Council member Ibrahim Jaber, tasked with creating suitable conditions for the return of citizens, ministries, and government institutions to operate from the capital, Khartoum. This December, the Council of Ministers issued an official decree, No. 18 of 2025, directing a number of ministries to take the necessary steps to return employees to Khartoum and resume operations from there. Several ministries, including the Ministries of Culture, Information and Tourism; Human Resources and Social Welfare; Higher Education and Scientific Research; and Industry and Trade, announced the relocation of their headquarters and employees from Port Sudan to new locations, including the new government complex in Khartoum, in implementation of the directives of the "Government of Hope," which embodies the prospect of change. During his recent visit to Khartoum last week, Commander Abdel Fattah al-Burhan inspected several newly relocated ministries and institutions that have resumed operations in the capital, including the new headquarters of the Ministry of Culture, Information, and Tourism. In an interview with Al Jazeera Net, Graham Abdel Qader, Undersecretary of the Federal Ministry of Culture, Information, and Tourism, stated that the resumption of government operations in Khartoum represents an achievement that reflects the state's efforts to rebuild what the war destroyed. The government official added that this return reflects a victory for the Sudanese people and a positive sign towards achieving stability and improving services. It also sends a message of reassurance to the Sudanese people and the domestic and international communities that Khartoum State is moving confidently towards regaining its organizational and administrative role soon.
